WORLD SCOUT DAY DINNER (SAT, 28 FEBRUARY 2015)

Warm greetings for the Season.

2015 marks two significant events: the 108th anniversary of World Scouting and the 50th year of Scouting in independent Singapore.

To celebrate the event, the Singapore Scout Guild is organizing a World Scout Day Dinner on behalf of the Singapore Scout Association (“SSA”). The details are as follows:

Date:     28 February 2015 (Saturday)

Time:     7.00 pm – 10.00 pm

Venue:   The Multi Purpose Hall, Level 3, Singapore Scout Association Headquarters

Menu:   Halal Chinese food

Fee:      S$50.00 per person

The theme of the dinner is “50: A Celebration of Purple, Red and White”.

Purple is the corporate colour for World Scouting, whereas red and white are Singapore’s colours.

The intertwining of the three colours reminds us that SSA is part of a worldwide brotherhood, and that SSA has grown up with and is an integral part of Singapore.  Do come in full Scout uniform, or anything in purple, red and white.  We encourage you to invite your old Scouting friends along to share an evening of comradeship and to renew Scouting friendships.

All Units are reminded that they may avail themselves of their Group Fund as part of adult leader welfare.

Please register using the attached booking form and submit the completed form to Ms Madelene Seow on or before 7 February 2015.  Please contact Scout Headquarters at madelene.seow@scout.org.sg or at 6259 2858 if you have any queries.

We look forward to your active support and participation.

Thank you and best regards.

Yours in Scouting,

Malcolm BH Tan

SAY GOODBYE TO CHOLESTEROL & WEIGHT GAIN

Our next Be Prepared Seminar will be on “Say Goodbye to Cholesterol and Weight Gain”. Learn how your lifestyle determines your genetic potential and understand the underlying root causes of common chronic health conditions.

John Lynn, a Clinical Nutritionist from Healthystars will kick off our brand new Speakers Series with a nutrition-based presentation that provides a clear understanding of the underlying root causes of common chronic health conditions such as high cholesterol, weight gain, diabetes, allergies, hormonal issues and cancers.

The aim of this presentation is to empower the participants with knowledge and understanding to live a full and abundant life that is free of disease and illnesses. They would learn how to make good daily nutritional choices based on clear principles that are supported by evidence-based science.

This talk is also highly motivational because it aims to change habits and behaviours. It is based on the approach that if prevention is better than cure, then protection is also a kind of cure for many health related issues.

Key Lessons

  • Your lifestyle determines your genetic potential (epigenetics)
  • Solve the underlying root causes not just the symptoms
  • Every meal is either a metabolic success or failure
  • Avoid all preservatives and seasonings
  • Avoid foods with high steriods or hormone disruptors
  • Someone busier than you is exercising
  • Food & nutrition is a main stream function for life; it is not optional.

For more info, please refer to John’s Bio.

Come and join us for this exciting and informative seminar on Thursday, 15 January 2015 from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm at the Singapore Scout Association, Conference Room (level 2). Closing date is on Saturday, 10 January 2015.

On behalf of the Singapore Scout Association, the Singapore Scout Guild is organising a charity golf tournament on Tuesday, 9 September 2014, at the Tanah Merah Country Club, Tampines Course, 1.15 pm (shot-gun start).  Funds raised will go towards supporting the scouting movement in Singapore.

I take great pleasure in inviting you to participate in the tournament and to a dinner after the game.  The participation fee is $500 per golfer or $1,800 per flight of four players.  Apart from playing on a beautiful course, participants will each receive a goodie bag and have the opportunity of winning a luxury car for the hole-in-one prize and various novelty and lucky draw prizes.  A light lunch will also be served.

Please send early the enclosed Registration Form to the address provided, together with the payment.  The closing date for registration is 15 August 2014. Only registrations accompanied with payments received will be accepted.

Challenge Trophy for Scout Guild Chapters

Scout Guild Chapters will again be vying for the Challenge Trophy.  Chapters are encouraged to submit teams of four players.  Each team should include at least one Scout Guild member.  The more teams you sign on, the more chances you have of winning.  The total score of the best three players of each team will be used to compute the winning Chapter.

Donations, Adoption of Holes and Other Contributions

However, if you are unable to participate in the Charity Golf, you may wish to make a cash donation towards this worthy cause.  We thank you for your generosity and request that all donations be made out to ‘The Singapore Scout Association’, with the words “Scouts Charity Golf 2014” written on the back of your cheque. All cash donations will be issued with a tax-deductible receipt.

You may also wish to “adopt” a hole for $3,288.  This will entitle you to nominate four players and have your company’s name and logo mounted on an A-Signboard at the “adopted” hole’s tee-box.  You can also contribute items to the goodie bags and for the various novelty and lucky draw prizes.  This is an excellent opportunity for participants to get to know and experience your products and services.

For your donations, adoption of holes and other contributions, please use the attached donation/adoption of hole/contribution form.
